If I Could Go Back in Time When I First Realized I was in Perimenopause, This Is What I’d Do…

You ever look back and think, “Damn… if I knew then what I know now?”

That’s me with perimenopause.

When my symptoms first hit, I didn’t even know that’s what it was. I thought I was just stressed, not sleeping well, and “getting older.” Nobody—doctors included—was giving me the full picture.

And because I didn’t know better, I made a lot of choices that made things harder on my body.

If I could go back in time, here’s exactly what I would do differently to heal my perimenopause symptoms and save myself years of frustration.


1. I’d Stop Hustling and Start Resting

My old strategy was: push harder, sleep later, keep grinding. But in perimenopause, that’s a recipe for burnout.
What I know now: rest is medicine.

If I could go back, I’d build in micro-rest breaks daily. Ten minutes of restorative yoga, 5 minutes of breathing, a walk without my phone. Those tiny pauses would’ve saved me from months of running on fumes.


2. I’d Stop Overexercising

I used to think I needed to “work it off” with back-to-back HIIT classes. Wrong.
That only spiked my cortisol, made my hot flashes worse, and wrecked my sleep.

What I know now: strength training + yoga is the magic combo. It keeps my bones and muscles strong while calming my nervous system.


3. I’d Actually Listen to My Body

Instead of ignoring the mood swings, bloating, or weird cycle changes, I’d slow down and ask: What’s my body telling me?
Because every symptom was a message, not a mistake.

Now I know: tuning in instead of tuning out is how you actually start to heal.


4. I’d Build a Wellness Toolbox Early

I used to think yoga was just about stretching and green juice was just for influencers.
But now? I’ve got a whole-ass toolbox that actually works: yoga, breathwork, herbs, acupuncture, journaling, therapy, strength training.

If I could go back, I’d start building that toolbox the minute my first symptom showed up.


Exactly What I’d Tell My Younger Self

I’d look her dead in the eye and say:


“Babe, your body doesn't hate you. It’s calling you into a new season. Stop fighting her. Start listening. And take care of her the way you wish someone would’ve taught you.”


And What I’ll Tell YOU Now

You don’t have to do this the hard way. You don’t have to wait years to figure it out like I did.

The earlier you start supporting your body with rest, smarter movement, and nervous system care, the easier this whole journey gets.
