• Purpose: Face anger; release fear; soothe tension and stress; calm the nervous system; acceptance of the cycle of life.
• Theory:
– Ayurveda: Rebalancing pitta (fire) excess that causes heated emotions.
– TCM: Liver and gallbladder rebalance to overcome anger, irritability and resistance to change. Also includes poses to cool kidney and urinary bladder imbalance causing excess fire.
– Psychology: Encouraging acceptance of and surrender to change instead of resisting. Befriending our feelings, including anger, sadness and fear.
– Biology: Calming the nervous system to counteract the oestrogen and progesterone fluctuations in the endocrine system.
• Props: 1 bolster; 2 bricks or blocks; 1 chair if needed in forward folds; 1–2 blankets.
